DCUK SoundSport - A bigger & exciting 2027 Season ahead

Registration for the 2027 DCUK SoundSport® season will open on Thursday 1 October 2026, with an expanded programme of performance opportunities, two new SoundSport® classes and plans for two additional events later in the season.

Following the continued growth of SoundSport® in the UK, DCUK is delighted to announce details of its 2027 programme, delivered as part of the Winter Guard United Kingdom (WGUK) circuit.

SoundSport® units will once again have dedicated performance opportunities at every WGUK event throughout the winter season, with two additional SoundSport®-focused events being planned for April and May 2027.

2027 SoundSport® Performance Dates

Dedicated SoundSport® performance opportunities will be available at the following WGUK events:

Sunday 17 January – Fenton Manor Sports Complex, Stoke
Sunday 7 February – Knowsley Cultural Centre, Liverpool
Sunday 14 February – University of Essex Arena, Wivenhoe
Sunday 28 February – University of Worcester St Johns Sports Centre, Worcester
Sunday 14 March – Leeds Beckett University Arena, Leeds
Sunday 21 March – Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill
Saturday 3 April – British Winter Guard Championships, University of Worcester Arena

In addition, two further SoundSport®-focused events are planned:

Sunday 25 April – Indoor venue to be confirmed, potentially in the Midlands
Saturday 22 or Sunday 23 May – Outdoor venue to be confirmed, potentially Northampton/Milton Keynes

The two additional events will be dependent on the number of units registering and will operate as dedicated SoundSport® events rather than forming part of the WGUK season.

The SoundSport® opportunities at all other listed WGUK events will proceed regardless of the number of units registered.

Two SoundSport® Classes for 2027
A major new development for 2027 will be the introduction of two SoundSport® class options, providing performers and organisations with greater choice in how they participate.

SoundSport® Medalist Class
The SoundSport® Medalist Class will provide a standard-setting environment for developing competitive ensembles, musical circuits and performers.

Adjudication will focus on the pursuit and achievement of excellence in performance, supporting groups as they develop their skills, productions and competitive experience.

SoundSport® Challenge Class
The SoundSport® Challenge Class will retain the qualities that make SoundSport® distinctive — entertainment, showmanship and musical performance — while introducing adjudicated ranking and scoring within a competitive format.

The class is intended to support the continued development of more advanced performers, ensembles and circuits seeking a greater competitive challenge.

Simple Registration Process
Registration will open on Thursday 1 October 2026 and, initially, the process will remain deliberately straightforward.

Organisations will be asked to indicate:

Which events they anticipate attending
Whether they wish to be adjudicated
Which SoundSport® class they are interested in
Whether they wish to participate as an exhibition unit

At this initial stage, organisations will not need to provide final confirmation for every event.

Once the likely number of participating units at each event is established, DCUK will work with organisations to confirm the finer details.

Confirmed registrations are anticipated to open from 1 December 2026, allowing units additional time to develop their productions before committing to their final contest schedule.

Event Capacity
The continued growth of SoundSport® has resulted in particularly strong entries at some events during recent seasons.

As a result, entry limits may need to be introduced at some WGUK events in 2027 to ensure that all participating units can be accommodated safely within the available performance space and timetable.

Every effort will be made to accommodate all interested units. Should limits be necessary, entries are expected to be managed on a first registered, first served basis, with a waiting list introduced where required.

Organisations interested in participating are therefore encouraged to register as soon as possible once registration opens.

SoundSport® continues to provide an accessible opportunity for bands, ensembles, musical groups, performers and emerging organisations to take part in a supportive performance environment.
