Five Champions crowned at WGUK Championships

On Saturday 5th April 2008 a packed Brentwood Centre witnessed another exciting climax to a Winterguard United Kingdom season.

In the morning the 7 Open Class Guards competed in their Preliminary Competition with Northern Academy taking the top spot ready for the evening Finals event.

This was followed the A Class and Junior Class Championships with 10 Guards competing in each class and the top three units from each (A Class - Guardsmen, Southern Knights, The Academy : Junior Class - Anchormen, Guardsmen, Southern Knights) moving forward to a new Play Off Contest in the evening with their order of performance decided by a random draw made live on the arena following the results announcement of the Guards placed 10th to 4th in each class

The Cadet Class Championships was one of the closest for a number of years with 8 units in competition.  For the 4th year in a row the Southern Knights Rugrats reigned supreme with Mayflower Cadets and Alliance Antz in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

The next part of the day was handed over to a new and emerging activity for the 1st British Indoor Percussion Championships.  This event saw 5 units compete with Vintage Percussion taking the Champions title followed by Percussion Unlimited in 2nd and Southern Aurora in 3rd.

It was now time for the Junior Class and A Class Play Offs and these young Guards really put on superb performances and with such talent coming through the future of the activity looks very rosy.  Congratulations to Guardsmen in the Junior Class and The Academy in the A Class on their Champion titles.

And then to the Open Class Finals.  Another 7 amazing performances entertained a near capacity stand but there can only be one winner.   Northern Academy took the top spot to become British Champions for the second year in a row with Mayflower coming in 2nd and Guardsmen 3rd and so another WGUK season drew to close.
