Guardsmen ‘Rock’ the house as they rise to the ‘Challenge’!

For the first time ever a Rock Challenge audience was introduced to Winterguard, thanks to performances by the Guardsmen’s Junior and Open guards at the Crawley heat of Rock Challenge last Friday. And what great shows they saw! This was the 6th out of the 39 UK wide Rock Challenge performing arts competitions for schools and colleges, aimed at promoting an anti smoke, drink and drugs lifestyle, with the winners, Bognor Regis Community College, progressing through to the Southern Grand in Portsmouth in May.

Whilst the judges deliberated the school’s results the Guardsmen’s Junior and Open Guards wowed the 800 strong sell-out audience, whilst the 600+ young performers watched via the live video link-up in the specially erected marquee outside.

Both guards gave very strong performances of their competition routines, adapted for the smaller stage, and dramatically enhanced with the use of stage lighting. The uniqueness and skill of Guardsmen drew rave reviews from other performers and staff alike, as they showed themselves to be superb ambassadors for our activity. A professional DVD was made which will be appearing on their website soon. www.guardsmen.org.uk

During the day Rock Challenge performers visited Guardsmen’s impressive stall promoting winterguards in Sussex, and some even got equipment coaching from Guardsmen members in the lobby!

WGUK and The Guardsmen would like to thank Rock Challenge for this opportunity to take our activity to a wider audience. To find out more about Rock Challenge near you, visit www.rockchallenge.co.uk
