The Academy

Area:  Thurrock
Established: 1989

Guard Director: Lisa Darton

Staff: Gina Barker, Darren Darton, Lisa Darton, Marie Spalding, Ken Mansfield, Lorraine Gray, Stacy Miller, Dale Powers, Louis Hellinger

The Academy was formed in 1991 as an independent colourguard but had previously competed in 1981, 1989 and 1990 under Thurrock Marching Brass where it originated.  TA has been in Open Class Finals for 17 consecutive years and have added a junior unit and A Class unit in the past five years.  TA's open guard have medalled for 10 of its 17 years in existence.

The Academy (A)

Area: Thurrock

The Academy's A Guard was formed in 2003 after our Junior Guard successfuly won 2002 Junior finals. The A Guard were subsequently promoted into Open Class in 2003 where we had 2 open guards competing. Our A Guard returned to A Class in 2004 and our training programme to build A Guard members into our open guard has proved very successful.

The Academy (Juniors)

Area: Thurrock

The junior guard were formed in 2001 finishing 2nd at finals. In 2002 the larger guard won junior Champinoships and the guard was divided into junior and A Class guards.  In 2003 the junior guard was promoted to A Class finishing in the top 5, where it stayed for 2004.  In 2005 we formed a new junior guard and we are currently expanding this unit.

Alliance

Area:  Essex
Established: 2003

Guard Director: Denni Mitchell

Established at the end of 2003 Alliance have enjoyed two very successful years in WGUK, topping it off by finishing the 2005 season as A Class Champions.  Alliance will be competing in the Open Class for the first time this year.  See Show Programmes (link above) for 2006 show description.

Alliance Juniors

Area: Essex

Alliance are performing in the Junior Class for the first time in 2006.  See above for show information.

Atlantic Dawn

Area: Lockleaze, Bristol

Established: April 2004

Guard Director: Tracey Berry

This is the second year of competing for Atlantic Dawn and after a tough first year and a few teething problems.  They have come a long way this year with a lot of changes being made within the guard, so we are left with the most committed members.  Led this year by the most experience of the group, Vanessa Berry-Channing, we hope they will come into their own and show everyone what we see in practice.  We continue to be very proud of them and their hard work is now paying off.

Atlantic Dawn Cadets

Electrix is an independent winterguard based in Malver, Worcestshire.  This is our first year out and all members are new ot winterguard.  We have a total of 11 members aged between 11 and 21.

EMC Colourguard

Established as part of the Essex Marching Corps in September 2003. This is our first winterguard season.

The Guardsmen were originally formed as a drum & bugle corps in 1997.  Following the demise of the corps in 2000 the colourguard have continued to flourish in their own right. The senior guard set up in 2000 to further the progression of senior members, in 2003 gaining a promotion award from A to Open class and placing 4th in last year's finals.

The Guardsmen were originally formed as a drum & bugle corps in 1997.  Following the demise of the corps in 2000 the colourguard have continued to flourish in their own right. The cadet guard was formed in 1997 and were originally known as Opal. Our most successful years to date have been 2002 when the cadets became Cadet Class Champions with their Austin Powers show and then the following year gaining a promotion award from Junior Class and finishing as A Class Champions in 2003.  This year the cadets will be marching 9 members.

Northern Academy (Jnrs)

Northern Academy (NAPA) formed in August 2003 as an independent guard unit.  Competing in 2004/05/06 in open class and 2005/06 in junior class.

Reflexions Academy

An independent performing youth group - current membership with 15 competing this season (6 new).  Our best show was in 2005 - 'Dancing Keys'.

Southern Knights (Open)

Area: Brighton & Hove

Established: 1909 (guard in 1978)

The highly successful Southern Knights Drum & Bugle Corps became in-active in 1997 and since that time have continued to build on our winterguard reputation of providing a stable all year round organisation for over 50 young people.  We have been British Champions in 1991 and 2005. 

Southern Knights (A)

The A Guard is designed to allow the right level of intensity to help prepare the members for the "rigours" of Open Class but also allow the Juniors to step up a class.  The current age range of the  members is between 12 and 15 years old.

Southern Knights (Juniors)

Area: Brighton & Hove

The Junior Guard offers a higher level of instruction than our Rugrats but fun is still their main focus.  With an age range of 7 to  11 years old we help prepare the members for moving up to our A Guard.

Southern Knights Rugrats

Area: Brighton & Hove

Established: 1991

Guard Director: Kristina Longford

The Rugrats cater for the youngest element of the Southern Knights organisation and provide a fun and enjoyable start to their winterguard experience.  Ages are between 4 and 8 years.

Squires

Area: Crawley, West Sussex

Established: 1986

Affiliated to the Squires Drum & Bugle Corps the winterguard has members from all sections of the main corps.

Starlights

Area: Lockleaze, Bristol

Established: October 1999

Guard Director: Christine Parson

Staff: Jane, Cathy, Jakie, Kelly, Becky, Sharron

Starlight majorettes was started in October 199 and are from Lockleaze in Bristol.  We train once or twice a week and are entering our third year in Winterguard United Kingdom.
